We Have a Great High Priest

Verse 1

Our God who spoke through the prophets,
Is now revealed in his son:
The author of creation,
Now Heir of all that’s to come.
The radiance of God’s glory,
His word sustaining all,
His life laid down to save us,
Now raised to share God’s glory,
And intercede for all

Chorus

For we have a great High Priest,
Jesus the Son of God
Tempted in every way,
Yet without sin.
So we can draw near,
Come to the throne of grace,
Certain in mercy we will receive
His help in our time of need,
His help in our time of need.

Verse 2

His life on earth fully human,
His death to break Satan’s power;
And Abraham’s descendants
Set free to live for him now.
As Jesus in his mercy
Was then the sacrifice,
For all our sins atoning;
High Priest now in God’s presence
So we can share his life.

Verse 3

Melchizedek the example:
High Priest but also a King;
As he foreshadowed Jesus,
The Church should now mirror him:
For we’re a Royal Priesthood,
And called to bring him praise;
The light of Christ reflected
When each receives a blessing
Bestowed in Jesus’ name.
