This song will be different every time and may not always include all the verses above. It is designed to incorporate suggestions from those gathered.
Here are a few ideas that show how you could take the song in different directions:
Let your kingdom come.
Father, hear our prayer.
How I love you, Lord.
Comfort those who mourn.
This is a reminder of why we come together to worship, bringing all of ourselves and offering whatever we can, but remembering that we're also sustained and supported when we're scattered within our communities. It has worked well to bring congregations to a more receptive place of encounter, particularly after a spell of high praise.
This song based on Ephesians 4:1-15 encourages the local church to live and work as a ‘team’ to be the Body of Christ to those around us - it was was written as an ‘Olympic’ song for the Resound Worship ‘2024 12 Song Challenge.
The 12 song challenge was to write a theme song for your church. This is mine and hopefully it should be applicable to any church. After all surely it is our mission to share Christ's love by means of a big dose of the fruits of the Spirit.
The Olympic motto is "Citius, altius, fortius, communiter" which translated into English is "Faster, higher stronger, together". We come together at the Olympics to celebrate individual achievement, but in community. Those achievements mean nothing without community and the individual needs the help of community to achieve their potential. This is very much the same model of the church which should be a loving community that enables each individual to achieve their full potential. So an Olympic song about achieving together. After all the Trinity is the ultimate community.
"We are one body" was written in 2020 during the first lockdown. Our church, St Paul's and St Stephen's, Newport, needed a song to encourage each other at a time when two congregations had recently merged together. This song has continued to build us up since then!
