I often imagine David fleeing into the desert, being pursued by his enemies, being scared for his life. And yet in the midst of all that, he writes songs because his focus is what God has promised, what He is doing and what He is going to do. Psalm 63 says "On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me." I wrote this song because, like David, that is what I want to focus my mind on. I want to sing in the shadow and shelter of His wings. To be nestled into him, to hear his heartbeat. My foes are different to David's but I need God's help to battle them. Psalm 17 v 6-8 says: "I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings"
This is a song about longing for and experiencing the Holy Spirit but knowing the truth that He lives inside us. John 7 v 37-39 "On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’" Jesus promised that streams of Living Water would flow from within us - Living Water flow!! Wonderfully arranged and produced by Mike Sandeman and with backing vocals from my daughter, Bekah Vickers-Patel. This song works really well with just guitar and vocal, particularly with the refrain "Living Water Flow".
How do we wait for God to move in a situation when we feel desperate? How do we do that actively and not passively? This song is based around crying out to God in a time of deep darkness knowing that He will come and rescue. This is my attempt to articulate that feeling of needing God to come from a position of being in a difficult place but knowing that He will come - "My Champion..."
This is a song about pressing in to God and following even when things get tough. Its a song of determination and faith based around 2 Cor 4:7-9 "7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." and Phil 3: 12-14 "12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
This song is about wanting God to come and purify me. We feel helpless sometimes and God is the only way through no matter how hard we try. He continues to wipe the slate clean when we mess up!!

This song came out of a time of seeking after God. I was trying to capture that juxtaposition of looking for God in everything but knowing that He is always there. I suppose the "where ever you may be" could be translated as wherever you take me, i will look for you!
