Justice

This was a 12 song challenge to write a song based on one of the Psalms. I decided to start at the beginning of the book of Psalms and choose the first one that seemed to appeal to me and which I hadn't used before. I settled for Psalm 15 which clearly defines what a believer should be like and it beautifully mirrors what Jesus taught which is rather prescient to current events in the evangelical church.
This is not a worship song. It is a call to righteous action. Through history, to our day, the courageous (very often people of faith) have spoken up against tyranny, injustice, lies etc. Our God is a God of justice and truth and we can shrink back from confronting wrongdoing affecting society. I think we constantly need to be encouraged to say something.

Resound Worship, Geraldine Latty
At the end of a creative writing session, I took a moment to reflect on the experiences I'd had in the weeks previously, the big headlines [and the not so popular ones] that had caught my attention in the news, the conversations where ongoing questions and disappointment, the weeping and struggle with illness, were being expressed by friends and family. It wasn't long before the prayer 'Lord have mercy' began to form in my prayers and in my initial improvisations around the song.
