Written as part of the 2024 Resound Worship 12 Song Challenge - an upbeat (Funky!) song to celebrate the fullness of life in Christ. Whilst it focuses on joy, the other listed fruits of the spirit are in there too. What better way to remember them all than to have them in a song!
This one was written on a baritone ukulele and features Rachel Wilhelm on backing vocals and George Cook on drums.

For many people, Christmas can be a difficult season instead of a joyful one. It can make us feel alone in a crowd as we carry our secret heartbreak and grief. Gatherings only seem to highlight the empty chairs and the broken dreams–the absence of the people we love or the things we desire that we’ve lost or never had. While everyone else is having a great time in the presence of family and friends, we can feel isolated. Alone. Numb. Empty.
At Christmastime the air is full of songs of hope that say things like “the weary world rejoices”. How can our weary hearts, exhausted by a long season of waiting, sorrow, and pain, find the strength to endure?
This song is for everyone who is experiencing the weight of that loss and grief. Jesus meets you there. The incarnation shows us a God who is not distant, but willing to take on human flesh and experience every moment of our grief and sadness. Even knowing he was about to resurrect his friend Lazarus, Jesus wept at the ugliness of death and the pain he saw in Mary and Martha’s eyes.
He is Emmanuel: God with us. Jesus meets all of us in the darkness and weeps with us too.

"A Time For Everything" was written in 2024 during the Resound Worship 12 Song Challenge Month where we were encouraged to write "a song for someone" - A song which someone in my church congregation could sing with real relevance, but where it could also be sung by everyone.
At the time, we has a family whose teenage daughter was suffering from unexplained seizures and swelling on the brain. She was in the intensive care ward of the specialist hospital, with the doctors a bit baffled by the cause and the necessary treatments. Her parents testified about how they were hanging on to faith through the circumstances, despite there not being a clear end in sight.
This song was written for them to sing. Thankfully she's on the mend now and back at school, after great medical care and a bit of a miraculous recovery.
It's my hope that this is a song you can sing, either because you're going through troubled times, or because you're standing alongside someone who is.
This song started with a challenge: 'write a song about rest'. I was just reading Psalm 34 that week: Taste. See. Pondering on what that might mean, I realised that to really taste or see, I needed to pause, to rest, so I could focus on what my senses noticed. I decided to write about this Psalm and working on it, I found out it ministered to me. The song kept coming back when facing a small surgery I was really afraid of. I listened to the song over and over again and also sang it to others. It is the opening song of my first album as I hope my songs will help others to taste and see that the Lord is good.
THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law." Galatians 5: 22-23
Many years ago when I was trying to memorize this passage I noticed that the last six fruits of the Spirit began with the letters P, K, G, F, G and S. From those letters I created the memory aid, "PacKaGe of FiGS" and it has worked for me every since! Recently I thought of putting that memory aid into a little song, and this is the result!

Written just before I started the 12 Song Challenge in 2024, this song has been used at Emmanuel Church Durham when we've had times of response to God, seeking to give ourselves to Him, be transformed for His glory and receive back abundant life.
This is a song about longing for and experiencing the Holy Spirit but knowing the truth that He lives inside us.
John 7 v 37-39 "On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’"
Jesus promised that streams of Living Water would flow from within us - Living Water flow!!

This song works really well with just guitar and vocal, particularly with the refrain "Living Water Flow".
