Over the last 18 months, the Resound Worship community have been talking about community songs, looking to write songs that rely on and draw people in to the singing experience rather songs that just go ahead with a band regardless of who is in the room. I wanted to write something that could be done with a band or a capella and would be enhanced by the congregation providing the percussion through clapping, stamping, clicking, shaking keys... here's what I came up with.
This song is a declaration of the otherness of God. It speaks of his awesomeness, using the last two verses of Jude. It also talks about our standing before Him, how he has forgiven us and brought us into adoption, and how he has given us a future hope. I often use it as one of the first couple of songs when leading a congregation in worship because it helps us to fix our eyes on God and put Him in His rightful, authoritative, place.
This is a raw demo version of a song written initially for the church at which I lead. It is a call to The Holy Spirit to come in fill our hearts and to overflow out from us. The week after it was written, the scripture John 7:38 was given to our church (the song had not yet been shared), which was a real confirmation that the song was given by God too!
This was written at a United Adoration creative day in Durham at the beginning of 2024. The wonderful Elise Massa, who ran the day, chose Isaiah 55 as her theme scripture. She also helped me hone the lyrics. It's basically about us being so attractive that God's glory shines through us to attract others to God. It is therefore a challenge as well as a promise.
