This song is both a declaration and retelling of some of Jesus's miracles and healings, and also a prayer for Him to come and do the same today. It was written as part of 2024's 12 Song Challenge.
A celebration of the awesome power of God to overcome all of our brokenness, and an invitation to bask in God's permanent, unshakeable love for us.
Written for my wife at Wydale, July 2024
This song puts us in the place of looking ahead at Heaven and the joy ahead. Using the image from the parable of the prodigal son, where the father runs to his son from afar, welcoming him home. In that place there will be eternal worship. A song like this may not be seen often, and I hope that this comforts and blesses you.
'Mary chose what is better,' Jesus said. She sat at His feet and listened. I want to be like that. But I can’t. I tried and tried, but just don't seem to be able to sit down and stay there. I wrestle with that. But I found out that I might not be able to sit down and listen the way Mary did, but I can at least give what I have, even if it is only a minute of focussed attention. And I can ask God to help me to listen longer and better.
Based on verses from the Holy Bible:
“Whoever goes to the Lord for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty can say to Him, You are my defender and protector, You are my God; in You I trust”.
(Psalm 91:1-2 GNT)
“…there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord”. (Romans 8:39 GNT)
This is a song about longing for and experiencing the Holy Spirit but knowing the truth that He lives inside us.
John 7 v 37-39 "On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’"
Jesus promised that streams of Living Water would flow from within us - Living Water flow!!
Wonderfully arranged and produced by Mike Sandeman and with backing vocals from my daughter, Bekah Vickers-Patel.
This song works really well with just guitar and vocal, particularly with the refrain "Living Water Flow".
This song is about the prodigal son and how the fathers arms is our home. I wrote this when wrestling with the idea of home as I left London where I felt so at home and been wrestling with the idea of what home looks like for me. Reading the passage in Luke 15:11-32, I realised my home isn't in a building, an area or a person, it's in the Fathers arms.
This is intended to be a big warm hug of a song and inspired by the sound of Pink Floyd's "Us and Them". It has been used in fellowship and worked really well. Come to me and I will give you rest!
